Tomb Raider 3: Adventures of Lara Croft Walkthrough & Game Guide

Lara's Home: Training Level

"Welcome back to my humble abode. Feel free to take a look around..."

This is the training level, where Lara will guide you on how you can perform the basic moves. The house includes various areas that you can visit in any order you like.

Bedroom - You begin in Lara's bedroom. Push the button on the left to open the nearby door and pick up the Flares. There is nothing in the bathroom, so exit the bedroom.

Attic - Go around the balcony, but do not go down the stairs yet. (It would be a good idea though to go down and spot the timed door for which you will run in a while. This screenshot shows the door.) Continue ahead and push the button on the left to open the door. It is not essential to go to the room with crates, unless you want to do and see everything. Enter, but do not bother with the button here, because it closes the door you just passed through. Go up the steps to reach a room with crates. As you enter, locate the movable crate on the right hand side (as shown in this screenshot). Push it to the end (twice). You do not reveal anything, but you will see in just a while what you did. Exit the room, go down the steps and return to the balcony.

Music room and library - Continue to the other side of the balcony and enter the music room. There is nothing interesting here, so go through the opening and up the steps on the left hand wall to enter the library. Find the extended book on the right hand side (as shown here) and use it to turn off the fire in the firepalce. Enter the fireplace and climb up the wall on the left. Dismount on the right hand ledge and follow the passage. When you reach the end, the fire comes back on, but you do not need to return there anyway.

The timed run for the Racetrack Key - Continue to the next room. Here you can see two movable crates and a switch. The switch opens a door on the ground floor of the Mansion, which gives you the access to the Racetrack Key. It is timed and you have about 30 seconds to make it. Since the way you came from is blocked by the fire, you need to find another way. First, pull the movable crate, which is on the ground, once. Pick up the Flares from beneath. Depending on if you have been to the attic or not, you can do either:

• If you have been to the attic, the movable block on the ledge should be completly out. Push it to the left (if the entrance is to your back). This reveals the room with crates behind.

• If you have not been to the attic, the movable crate is inside the alcove. Pull it twice to stand it on the ledge, then push it to the left (if the entrance is to your back) to reveal the room behind. Enter the room with the crates and go down the steps on the left. Push the button to open the door that gets you back to the balcony. Then return to the switch.

(Note: Make sure that the movable crate from the ground is lined to the alcove above, so that Lara will be able to pull out the second crate.)

As mentioned above, you have about 30 seconds to reach the door. You will need to pass through the room with crates, go down the steps to the balcony, reach the ground floor and go through the door. You do not need to panic, because the time is enough, and you do not need to sprint in the whole process. Flip the switch and press Roll and Look at the same time to break the camera that shows the door opening. Run through the opening on the right (do not sprint) to enter the room with crates and jump towards the opening on the left. Go down the steps (sprinting if you want here, but release just before reaching the end) and exit to the balcony. Now you can do either:

• Jump above the railings straight ahead to land on the steps. Then side-flip to the right over the railings to land on the ground floor and in front of the hallway with the door (as shown in this screenshot). Roll and sprint through the door.

Go to the right of the balcony, reach the middle of it, turn left and jump over the railings to land on the ground floor (as shown in this screenshot). Roll and sprint diagonally to the right to pass through the door.

If Winston keeps blocking your way, you can lure him either outside the house (and lock him outside) or in the fridge (and lock him inside).

Once you make it, pick up the Flares behind the door. The button here opens the door you just passed through, so go down the steps and follow the passage to reach a room with a water tank. Push\ pull the movable crate beneath the opening in the ceiling. Climb on the crate, then into the opening above. Go to the end and drop into the water. The fishes are harmless, so swim around the tank, heading to the exact opposite side. Get the Racetrack Key and return back to the opening you came from. Climb out of the water and make your way back to the main part of the Mansion, pushing the button to open the door if you did not do it before.

You can use the Racetrack Key now if you want, but you can explore the rest of the Mansion first.

Gym, pool and Lara's Treasure Room - As you return back from the tank, go to the right to enter the Gym. Following the numbers on the ledges, you can learn some basic moves. Play around a bit if you like, then enter the pool. (Notice the Cat Statues that come from TR1 and TR1 Gold.) Go around to the other side of the pool and push the button to open a door on the right of the Mansion entrance (as shown in this screenshot). It is not timed, so go there at your ease. Behind the door you will find a switch that opens the door exactly behind you (to the left of the Mansion entrance). This is timed, so you need to be quick. Flip the switch, roll, take a standing jump to exit the alcove, roll and sprint to the other side. Keep looking your strength bar whilst sprinting. When it is about to end, press Jump to perfrom a low somersault in order to cover more distance and probably slip past the door.

Again, if Winston keeps blocking your way, you can lure him either outside the house or in the fridge.

Inside the treasure room, you will be able to see the Dagger of Xian, the Iris, the Atlantean Scion, the Gold Idol and the T-Rex Trophy (for images see this page).

Kitchen and dinning room - If you want to see everything, you can also go to the kitchen. There is nothing special to see there. The dinning room is next to the kitchen. There is a button on the other side, which will play an awesome music.

Outside the Mansion - Push the button on the right of the main doors to open them. Exit. Straight ahead is the gate that leads to the end of the training level. To the right is a gate that opens from the other side. At the far left is the keyhole where you can use the Racetrack Key. The Assualt Course is at the back of the Mansion and you need to go around the building.

Racetrack - As you exit the Mansion, go to the left past the horse statue. Use the Key to enter. To ride the quad bike, stand in front of it and press Action. To move forwards press Action. To move backwards press the Jump button. To dismount press the Roll button along with the left or right direction key. For an extra boost, stay still and press the Sprint button, which is the break. Keep pressing the break and press Action to rev the engine. Then release the break and go.

Assault Course - As you exit the Mansion, go to the left and around the building. You can have a go here if you like. At the end and before the shooting range, you can see a crawlspace beneath the grass. In there you will find the Pistols (as shown in this screenshot). Use them to shoot the targets. Winston has predicted your nasty thoughts and wore a bullet-proof vest. This means that you cannot kill him, but only stun him for a couple of seconds.

Onto the roof (conrner bug) - To reach the Mansion's roof, you need to do a trick. You have to perform the "corner bug", which was originally found by Jason McAllister. If you are not familiar with this bug, see this page. Once you reach the roof, you can visit the bedroom's balcony and the Racetrack (in case you have troubles with the timed door and cannot retrieve the Key).

Balcony - Once you climb onto the roof, go to the far left corner (as shown here). You will see a brick pillar, which is the chimney. Go to the left side of it, towards the monkey bars of the Assault Course. Turn with the monkey bars to your back and side-step to the left to approach the brick pillar. Slide down backwards (as shown here), pressing Action to grab the edge (see here). Release to drop to another slide and finally on the balcony. To jump down, stand against the railings, hop back once and take a standing jump over them.

Racetrack - Once you climb onto the roof, turn right (as shown here) and proceed forwards. You will reach the part of the roof that overlooks the Racetrack. Now you can do either:

From this spot, run off the roof to land on the greenish wall that surrounds the Racetrack (see this screenshot).

From this spot, turn left and go to the end, to the part that overlooks the glassed roof of the swimming pool. Turn around and hop back like you do when you want to grab. You will land on a brick part of the wall (as shown here). From there, proceed almost to the middle and take a running jump to the greenish wall that surrounds the Racetrack.

Exiting the Mansion - To exit the Mansion, go to the front side and push the button to open the gates. Exit and the game will get you to the Main Title Screen. Alternatively, you can enter your inventory, bring up the Passport, select it and turn the pages until you reach the Exit to Title option.
